Our penguin keepers were at a local quarry with hard hats and raincoats on today. They were selecting rocks for Penguins' Rock. Somewhere in the neighborhood of 500 pounds of rock were being picked up today. The stones will be disinfected before being added to the exhibit on Wednesday, April 1st. Almost immediately the gentoos and macaronis will begin selecting rocks to build nests. If you missed it last year, don't miss it this year. It's comical to see the birds meticulously selecting just the right rock and then carrying the stone to their special nesting site. We are hopeful that this year's romance will be successful.
